INTRODUCTION:

This document summarizes the rights of residents and the legal and ethical responsibilities of Lynn Shore Rest Home under Massachusetts law (105 CMR 150.000) and federal long-term care guidelines.

Its purpose is to ensure that every resident of Lynn Shore Rest Home is treated with full dignity, respect, and humanity, and that all staff and board members understand the standards required for safe, compassionate, and lawful care.

This summary is not a replacement for the full regulations but serves as a foundational reference for leadership, employees, residents, families, and oversight agencies.

SECTION A — RESIDENT RIGHTS

Residents of a Massachusetts rest home have the right to:

1. Dignity, Respect, and Humanity

  • To be treated as a whole person — physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

  • To live free from humiliation, neglect, verbal or physical abuse, or intimidation.
    To be addressed by their chosen name and treated with kindness, patience, and respect.

  • To be supported in maintaining autonomy whenever possible.

2. Privacy and Personal Autonomy

Residents have the right to:

  • Privacy during personal care, bathing, toileting, and dressing.

  • Private communication with visitors, clergy, advocates, and outside agencies.

  • Confidentiality regarding medical records, finances, and personal information.
    Participation in decisions about their daily routines, preferences, and care plan.

3. Safe and Comfortable Living Conditions

Residents have the right to:

  • A clean, sanitary, safe, well-maintained living environment.
    Adequate heat, light, ventilation, and protection from environmental hazards.
    Rooms and facilities maintained in good repair and free from safety threats.
